24,000 trees.
One city.
Our future.
Wake County lost over 11,000 acres of tree canopy in just one decade, leading to hotter streets, more stormwater runoff, and fewer places to find shade and breathe easy.
Help us reverse this loss and create a greener, cooler Raleigh by planting 24,000 trees in time for Raleigh’s 240th birthday in 2032!
By the Numbers
Data from the Wake County Land Cover Analysis and Tree Canopy Assessment, 2023
Air
Wake County’s trees remove 11,022 tons of pollutants from the air every year, giving each resident the benefit of 19.5 pounds of cleaner air annually.
Water
Our trees intercept over 8.1 billion gallons of stormwater each year, filtering pollutants away from the rivers, lakes, and reservoirs we all depend on.
Climate
Treeless urban areas are significantly hotter. Wake County’s trees absorb 414,710 tons of CO2 annually, helping cool our neighborhoods.
Economy
Wake County’s tree canopy has an estimated $3.2 billion value, delivering $2,834 in ecosystem benefits per resident over the life of the trees.
Health
Time spent around trees reduces stress, lowers blood pressure, improves mood, and shields vulnerable residents from dangerous heat.
Planting 24,000 trees by 2032 is a commitment to improving our air and water quality, enhancing community spaces, and combating climate change.
Trees provide ecological infrastructure, reduce urban heat, and support wildlife and pollinators. Increasing our tree canopy will foster a healthier, more sustainable City of Oaks for generations to come.
